When our feelings get ahold of us, sometimes we act in hurtful ways. That is why we practice getting ahold of our feelings.. Once we get ahold of our feelings, we can turn our thinking brains on, see things differently, and learn new ways of solving problems

 

Each kid will make their own pair of heart shaped glasses, they will play “using my loving eyes” to see situations differently

Lesson Plans April 1st-5th

We have a super, fun week ahead of us! I love this time of year and getting to watch all of my students grow in their confidence and independence. They amaze me everyday! I love getting to teach them, but most importantly, I love learning from them.

In a couple of weeks, we will be bringing in caterpillars and get to watch them transform into butterflies. Kindergarteners are kind of just like that. They crawl into my classroom in August nervous and scared of the unknown. But, soon, they are ready to fly out of my classroom and continue to bloom in their new found confidence! It makes me teary eyed just thinking about it! 

Here’s a look into what we have planned this week:

Morning Activities:

Sight Word Dance and Write in journals

Play music, students dance, when music stops call out a sight word and they write it in their journal or on a whiteboard as quickly as possible

Interactive Writing:

Share pen and call on students to write,

I am so lucky and then list why they are so lucky.

Ex. I am so lucky that I have a dog. Etc.

Create a Large Story Map of The Three Little Pigs students can take turns walking down the path and retelling the story.

 

Reading Skills:

Identify elements of a fairytale story, discuss main idea of a well known fairytale or fable and connect it to their own personal experience. Also, recognize recurring phrases in traditional fairy tales & folktales from various cultures. Last, compare/contrast different fairy tale versions of the same story and retell the fairy tales

Class Routine:

-Play in partners. Each partner rolls a dice. The first partner to shout out the sum first, wins!

-Have students draw the teen numbers in the air with their fingers.

-*Put students in partners. One student will draw a teen number with their finger on their partner’s back. The partner has to guess the teen number. Switch!

Writer’s Workshop Activities:

-Add Fairytale and Easter word banks to writing reference folders

-complete story map page using story cube dice app

 

Then give each student a story map paper and

each table an ipad to roll the story cube dice and record onto their story maps

-Begin Fairytale Writing

-Fairy Tale Dice – Give each partner a pair of fairy tale dice. Have each student write their own fairy tale using the dice to help them decide on characters and actions.,, Have Students draw pictures of what their story will be about using the elements of a fairy tale sheet. They can then write their story on the fairy tale writing paper.

-Continue write B/M/E stories

-Continue setting writing goals.

-Continue using writing reference folders as a resource

This week is going to be WONDERFUL!

We had such a fun filled week! The kiddos had a blast finishing up their animal research projects. They worked so hard researching their animals. They also worked in groups to create a map from Little Red Riding Hood’s house to Grandma’s house! They did so good! We ended our week by doing a fun Jelly Bean Experiment and creating Leprechaun Traps in hopes of catching one! Enjoy the pictures!
